old love ghosts

A wise man once wrote “Of all ghosts the ghosts of our old loves are the worst.”

These sentimental spectres sit silently in wait, unseen
behind a smokescreen as they lure you with their bait,
they urge to fool you fully with a retrospective glow,
they work to make you lose the thoughts of when you
finally let go.

The phantoms of passion lurk in shadows and the dark, they’re poised to pounce and pull you down determined to leave their mark, the lusty air is poison and they’re hoping you’ll breath in, succumbing to their bewitchment, you’ll meet love’s evil twin.

A devotional demon transfigures, he’s a trickster, a merciless beast, hatched into this realm, to create overwhelm and then on your heart he will feast and then when he’s done with your essence he’ll seek out what he saw as he ate, the people who you care the most about, he’ll infect every heart with his hate.

These affectionate apparitions are an angry group of ghouls, an malevolent squad of deception who’ll fight dirty with no rules, there’s a mission they’ll always be seeking, to make you doubt all the things in your head,
they may be ghost of old loves pasts, but old loves are
never dead.
